De Montfort Managed Learning Environment - Architecture

http://www.jiscinfonet.ac.uk/Resources/external-resources/dmu_MLE_Architecture_v1_000.doc

De Montfort University's MLE project describes the architecture both in terms of the relationships between systems and protocols and standards used to achieve this and states "The architecture used to integrate the MLE with internal DMU systems has been designed so that it is generic enough to be implemented into other, similar, environments. This is supported by the use of widely recognised standards such as XML, IMS and SQL. We have tested extending the scope of this client to searching our Institutional Finance System (this is from the same vendor as the QLS system, but the principle is that it is an SQL database that can be registered with MS Windows NT, as an ODBC/ADO database).

INSIDE Project Report

http://www.jiscinfonet.ac.uk/Resources/external-resources/INSIDErep

The INSIDE project started with three general goals: the development of a sustainable model of the University’s information flows and processes based on analyses and formal modelling techniques; the piloting of value-added services based on the analyses of existing processes; and the generation of user-centric portals for staff based on their institutional roles and responsibilities. A distinguishing feature of INSIDE within the 7/99 programme is its recognition that the information maintained by Academic Schools and Departments, and the work involved in doing so, is an important, but under represented, component in the overall institutional information base.

TISR project Management Report No.4

http://www.jiscinfonet.ac.uk/Resources/external-resources/TISRmanrep4

This management report from the "Towards an Integrated Student Record" project at Ravensbourne College describes the main activities of the project, i.e. developing: a TISR application - a Java application that combines information from a variety of data stores and caches the result in an LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol) server; a TISR object - an object oriented model of a student which can be represented on an LDAP server and can be mapped to the IMS enterprise “person” specification; and a Web application which enables staff and students to view the data online. Section 4 describes the lessons learned in the project.

If you can read this text, it means you are not experiencing the Plone design at its best. Plone makes heavy use of CSS, which means it is accessible to any internet browser, but the design needs a standards-compliant browser to look like we intended it. Just so you know ;)
