Hints and tips for stage two
Ensure you study the JISC infoNet project management methodology and follow it as closely as you can when planning and managing your EDRM project.
Get in some external advice and expertise in the form of independent consultants plus your procurement department plus IT staff who have managed large IT projects before. They can help you produce a realistic plan and budget. Someone who has gone through all this before can challenge some of your assumptions and provide informed answers to your questions and give you the confidence that you have made the right decisions.
Ensure that you have obtained senior management support and have the right project structure including the project board and the vital user group so you have users involved at an early stage.
Do not to ignore the change management and communications requirements. Today the main reason EDRM projects fail is not because the technology does not work. It is because insufficient effort was put into winning over the stakeholders and the users and ensuring that they receive all the support they need to use the system and make it work.
