Types of Staff Development and Training

The types of staff development and training that need to be considered in planning a system implementation project fall into three broad categories:

  • Training/development for the implementation team in order to allow them to carry out the work
  • Training/development for end users in a newly implemented system or a changed process
  • General project promotion and awareness raising to prepare the organisation for a change

A wide range of staff may need to be involved in any one or more aspects of these types, and for large implementations this may mean significant numbers of people. Many organisations follow a 'train the trainer' approach on the grounds of practicality, an example of this for a large implementation is shown below.
