This provides guidelines on:

  • Types and uses of Resources
  • Types of Course
  • Course Design and Structure
  • Usability and Accessibility
  • Communicating with Students and Learning from Feedback
  • Quality Assurance and Distributed Learning

Two forms are used for the QA process, one for courses/modules which are “new” (to eLearning) and one for “repeats”.

The form for “new” courses asks the author to get an agreed peer reviewer to assess the course against the following questions:

  • Have students been given the necessary information to allow them to undertake the eLearning elements of this module successfully?
  • Is clear guidance given in relation to where students can access the distributed learning elements?
  • Is clear guidance given in relation to where, when and in what ways students can access help with IT for this module?
  • Is clear guidance given in relation to student induction and training in using the distributed learning elements?
  • Is there clear guidance for students in relation to what they can expect from tutors and what is expected of them?
  • Have the guidelines in relation to text been followed?
  • Have the guidelines in relation to colour been followed?
  • Has there been a spell check, and who by?
  • Have the guidelines in relation to media use been followed?
  • Have the links to other applications and sites been tested and who by?
  • Is there a clear distinction between activities and learning resources?
  • Are the teaching, learning and assessment strategies for the distributed learning components of the module made explicit?
  • What proportion of this module will be delivered through distributed learning?
  • What provision for formative and summative assessment of those outcomes addressed via distributed learning has been made?
  • Are the arrangements for collaborative learning clear and are there clear guidelines for students to follow?
  • Is there at least one member of the module team who has been trained in distributed learning?
  • Are there sufficient resources for the tutor(s) to support this module?
  • Are there clear methods for eliciting student feedback continuously through this module?
  • Are there clear methods for evaluating this module?

The reviewer lists conditions and recommendations, and when these have been addressed signs of the course. The repeat form is lighter in touch.

If you can read this text, it means you are not experiencing the Plone design at its best. Plone makes heavy use of CSS, which means it is accessible to any internet browser, but the design needs a standards-compliant browser to look like we intended it. Just so you know ;)
