The JISC infoNet website aims to be as accessible as possible. People often view certain factors such as technology, language, cultural background, geographic location and physical/mental aptitudes as barriers to accessibility. Inconsiderate web design is the real barrier. JISC infoNet endeavour to create a site accessible to all and follow the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines to produce materials available to all, in particular applying the following:
- Clean and uncluttered site design
- Use of Cascading Style Sheets (CSS)
- Images have alternative text descriptions
- Hyperlinks have titles
- Text transcripts of multimedia materials are available
- Downloadable versions of the main resources (infoKits and Resource Directory) are available (in pdf format)
- Using up-to-date standards for authoring materials online; this in turn reduces the size of pages, increases the accessibility of materials and improves usability.
We also follow advice from expert services such as TechDis to improve accessibility specific to our user base.
Implementing an accessible site involves constant review and improvement of accessibility materials, guidelines and standards. We welcome feedback from the community; if you experience any difficulties with the site or have any other comments on accessibility, please email Andrew Stewart.
