Scope
The scope of the project is an 'Applied infoKit resource' that covers the following broad areas. The areas will be defined in more detail as the project progresses and elements of the infoKit will simply contextualise existing resources rather than duplicate them:
- Background and objectives of the Bologna Process
- Implications for different types of institution and learner
- Implications for record keeping and information systems
- Tool to allow institutions to evaluate their state of readiness
- Guidance for institutions to develop and implement an individual action plan.
- Good practice guidance in relation to key issues (especially those raised in the 'straw poll' survey e.g. Diploma Supplements, ECTS, Europass, Lifelong Learner records).
- Guidance for institutions to evaluate the outcomes.
The project is currently funded to support HEFCE funded institutions only. We will be exploring the possibility of securing funding to extend the project to other areas of the UK.
It is not within the remit of the project to attempt to address or advise on policy or subject specific issues. The UK HE Europe Unit and the HE Academy are partners in the project and will remain the authoritative source of guidance on such issues. Similarly the project will view JISC-CETIS as the definitive source of information on technical standards.
Recommendation, evaluation and endorsement of suppliers is out of the scope of the project. It is important that JISC infoNet is seen to be impartial. The resource may include links to suppliers but these would be provided without any endorsement (except perhaps endorsement from an individual institution by way of a case study). The resource will make this clear.
Care will be taken not to 'reinvent the wheel' where resources, advice and guidance already exist for the related strands of the project. The JISC infoNet resource will concentrate on the approach to Bologna implementation as a change management exercise and highlight the many and varied resources available to piece this together (this is the main aim of the research/investigation phase). Project partners have been selected for their ability to offer material or advice in these related areas. Issues relating to policy in this area are out of scope for the JISC infoNet resource.
Consultancy to individual institutions is outside of scope (bar potential one-to-one with piloting institutions). The service does not have the resources available to offer this type of support.
