University of Plymouth
The University of Plymouth is a new University with about 30,000 students and almost 3,000 staff. The University has a record for consistently high achievement and has performed well in all teaching reviews since 1996.
The University has a long record of high quality innovative research as demonstrated by its achievements in the RAE, submitting twenty-five Units of Assessment (UoAs) in the 2008 RAE. The results show that the majority of research submitted by the University included world-leading research, achieving the highest rating possible - scoring 4-stars. Overall, 80% of the research was judged as being of international repute. The University has an excellent international reputation in key areas such as marine, environmental and coastal, computer science and engineering, health, sustainability and creative and cultural disciplines. They also have the opportunity to develop new areas and continue to play a pivotal role in innovation, knowledge exchange, and translation of research into practice and enterprise.
Coverage
The University submitted approximately 6,000 records from seventeen Units of Assessment to the REF pilot. It is estimated that 86% of the submission was journal articles and 14% was books, conferences etc.
