Target Audience and Outcomes
The workshop will be an interactive day aiming to introduce delegates to a structured approach to Risk Management and a set of tools for use in day-to-day management. The day is aimed at senior managers and any other staff who need to manage risk in Higher Education Institutions or Further Education Colleges. The content will be flexible to enable the workshop to be matched to the needs of delegates. No prior knowledge is assumed although the event is suitable for staff with previous experience of risk management as well as beginners.
The following areas will be covered:
- What is Risk? - Defining 'risk' and how it can impact on objectives; personal and institutional perceptions of risk; 'upside' risks
- A Risk Framework - Structure; approach; good practice
- Identifying Risk - Key areas of risk; risk logging and categorisation; cause and effect; useful tools
- Analysing & Costing Risk - Qualitative and quantitative analysis; 'How big is medium?'; budget planning
- Risk Response Planning - Different approaches; action planning; mitigating actions
- Risk Monitoring and Control - Early warnings; loss mitigation, opportunity costing; when it does go wrong
