The Road to Value

The idea of the road to value is central to the EA Practice Group and the whole FSD Programme: investment in new approaches must lead to tangible value for the institution in the eyes of senior management. There are several frameworks to professional and organisational readiness and maturity in methodologies such as enterprise architecture and SOA.

In travelling on the EA road to value we've found this simple model a good way to gauge progress and the activities that help at each stage.

EA Road to Value: Where are you?

Explorer: researching, investigating EA, identifying potential change projects, developing a case

Adopter: planning, orienting, engaging with colleagues, designing a live project

Implementer: initial project under way, with training and support

Achiever: First results, impact and value evident - may be hard to quantify at this stage

Practitioner: EA is an established professional approach for strategic change and development

Supporting new members of the Practice Group in the early stages of adoption is the main focus of the work programme. The four pilot project pioneers are now at the 'Achiever' and 'Practitioner' stages so also benefit from continued collaboration - our second focus area. They are acting as our Enterprise Architecture 'thought leaders' and mentors and are taking part in the FSD programme themselves, applying their growing EA experience to change involving ICT in their institutions.
