Emma talks about initial engagement with e-portfolios
Yes, I very much believe that hands-on in the early stages so that they can actually do as you talk is much more, it gives them the ownership over what it is that they are creating and I wish I could have done it in the same sort of way as the School of Art and Design so that it's almost like they can experience what it is that you're trying to convince them about. So the Foundation Degree students took to it really quickly and they had a lot more of a feel for the technology than the Art and Design students. You know, the whole Digital Natives, Digital Immigrants conversations that we have - there was like a 'Mexican wave' of terror of Foundation Degree students when they found out that the 'e' in e-portfolio meant they had to go near a computer, so yes, it was a different sort of winning of hearts and minds of the two different groups.
