A digital immigrant is an individual who grew up without digital technology and adopted it later. Prensky (2001)

Digital literacy

Digital literacy is the ability to locate, organize, understand, evaluate, and create information using digital technology. It involves a working knowledge of current high-technology, and an understanding of how it can be used.

Digital Natives

A digital native is a person for whom digital technologies already existed when they were born, and hence has grown up with digital technology such as computers, the Internet, mobile phones and MP3s. Prensky (2001)

e-Communication

Electronic communication. e-communication includes websites, emails and electronic documents.

e-Portfolio

An e-portfolio 'is a purposeful aggregation of digital items - ideas, evidence, reflections, feedback etc, which 'presents' a selected audience with evidence of a person's learning and/or ability.' Sutherland and Powell (2007)

Plug-in

A set of software components that adds specific capabilities to a larger software application. Plug-ins, if supported, can enable the customisation of the functionality of an application. For example, plug-ins are commonly used in web browsers to play video, scan for viruses, and display new file types. Well-known plug-ins examples include Adobe Flash Player and QuickTime.

Repository

A digital repository is a means of managing, storing and providing access to digital content. Repositories can take many forms, and all sorts of websites and databases could be considered to be repositories.

SWOT

SWOT analysis is a tool used to find out the current status and position of an organisation or individual in relation to their external environment and current role. SWOT stands for Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats.
