Communicating to Influence

Communication is of course an essential part of both project and change management. This resource does not set out to be a comprehensive guide to effective communication but there are a few tips you may find useful when you are in a situation of trying to influence others.

The first tip is be clear about what you want to achieve and visualise your goal. Sports people frequently use the technique of visualising themselves achieving their goals and empirical tests have shown that sports people can improve their performance by simply practising in their heads. Once you have visualised your goal express it in a positive way. State what you want not what you don't want as people have difficulty processing negative messages.
