Photo Library
Flickr is a popular online photo management and sharing application, an excellent example of social software.
Basic Flickr accounts are free, you can also pay for a premium service which adds a number of features including greater storage capacity. You can find out more about Flickr from their website.
Planning & Designing Technology-Rich Learning Spaces was always intended to be a more visually-based resource than other infoKits, given its subject. JISC infoNet has used the opportunity to explore the use of social software and as a result a Flickr account has been populated to complement this resource. The account houses numerous photographs illustrating new build and refurbishment projects from around the sector. The photographs are tagged and described in various ways to allow a 'slice and dice' approach and maximise the number of ways in which you may access, sort and group the images.
As a starting point the photographs are grouped into sets of themed images. You will find richer descriptions against each of the images, highlighting particular points of interest in relation to the infoKit material. Flickr allows you to search images using words in the descriptive text, and these descriptions have been used to provide filtered groups of images that are linked throughout the kit.
You will also find 'hotspots' applied to many images, where comment boxes overlaid on the image indicate a particular point of interest - use your cursor to hover over the box to display the related text.
Further information on searching our Flickr photo gallery includes a more detailed explanation of tags and descriptions used.
