Planning & Designing Technology-Rich Learning Spaces Virtual Campus

IPIX Logo

To supplement our Flickr Photo Library of technology-rich learning spaces we've also created a Virtual Campus composed of spaces we find inspiring from a range of different places. You can take a walk through the campus and see 360° images of a variety of types of learning space. The floor plan indicates which places you can visit.

To take the tour you will need to download some free software onto your PC. The tour is quite intuitive once you've used it but we've provided some instructions to get you started.

Launch the Virtual Campus

Click for instructions for installing the IPIX Viewer and Adobe Flash Player.

Using the Virtual Campus

If you are using Internet Explorer you may have to click on the virtual campus and floor map to begin using it.

There are several ways to navigate through the virtual campus making it very simple to use.

  1. You will start outside the main building. Click on the image to activate the tour.
  2. Right click and select ‘Show hotspot targets’. The hotspots are of 2 types:
    • Red Hotspots appear on doors, stairs etc and show you can walk this way through the building. Double click the hotspot to move on.
    • Green Hotspots indicate a point of interest. Hover over the hotspot to see the text.
  3. Use your keyboard arrow keys to move around the space in any direction or click and drag your mouse in the direction you want to go.
  4. If you find the mouse goes too quickly, right click and select ‘Navigation Speed’ to slow it down.
  5. Hovering over the central portion of the image, you will see a magnifying glass icon. The icon is positive just above the centre allowing you to zoom in or negative just below the centre allowing you to zoom out.
  6. You can right click at any point and select ‘Reset viewpoint’ to go back to the default view.
  7. The quickest way to navigate round the whole building is to use the red hotspots to move around. You can also use the floor plan to go straight to a specific room. If you tour this way you will need to reactivate the hotspots in every room should you want to see them.
  8. In any of the spaces you can look straight down at the floor to find out where it is located in real-life.

If you can read this text, it means you are not experiencing the Plone design at its best. Plone makes heavy use of CSS, which means it is accessible to any internet browser, but the design needs a standards-compliant browser to look like we intended it. Just so you know ;)
