Drivers for Open Access Research Repositories
The primary push for the existence of research repositories came from the Open Archives Initiative (OAI) which calls for each institution to make all of its publicly funded research available - and not just in the institution but everywhere else, i.e. enhancing access to scholarly communication both at institutional level and subject-based archives.
