Personal Safety Online

As social software encourages people to be open to the point of carelessness with their personal data, there are many concerns about the implications for the privacy and security of individuals. As Anderson (2007) states, "the sheer scale of material that people are prepared to post, often the most intimate details and photos that a generation ago would only have been seen and known by a handful of friends, is changing the nature of privacy."

Social software is a very open and keenly observed environment, and staff may well be tempted to blur their professional and personal online lives. A lot of guidance is available, but mainly aimed at younger users, though sites such as this BBC guide offer sensible advice.

If you can read this text, it means you are not experiencing the Plone design at its best. Plone makes heavy use of CSS, which means it is accessible to any internet browser, but the design needs a standards-compliant browser to look like we intended it. Just so you know ;)
