As well as disseminating outputs from JISC and other sectoral bodies' programmes and projects, JISC infoNet is engaged in a number of specific collaborations with other organisations and institutions within the sector. This page highlights major projects that have been completed. View the partnerships page for current projects.
Retention Periods for Records in Further Education in the United Kingdom
Phase 1 completed January 2006
A collaborative project undertaken by JISC, JISC infoNet and members of the Further Education community, the retention schedule database for FE provides guidance on the periods of time for which particular records must be retained by their institutions.
The output is mounted as a searchable database which can be used to provide the basic outline retention/destruction schedule for a college/institution. Further information and the database can be accessed here.
Freedom of Information Survey
Completed December 2005
This online survey, carried out jointly between JISC, Universities UK and the Standing Conference of Principals (SCOP) during October/November 2005, attracted a 50% response rate of Universities UK and SCOP members from within England & Wales. The results highlight the impact compliance is having on institutions and the resources being diverted to deal with its requirements, with the evidence suggesting that the impact of responding to requests is disproportionate to their quantity. The survey results and related resources can be found in the FOI section of this site.
infoBase/UCISA CISG Directory Project
Phase 1 completed November 2005
infoBase was initiated in 2003 aiming to provide a database of institutions and details of the information systems they use. After an initial scoping exercise and feasibility study, JISC infoNet partnered with UCISA who were reviewing their online directory structure after it was agreed there was considerable overlap between the two initiatives. A unified database schema to both underpin the CISG directory and satisfy the JISC infoNet information requirements was agreed and subsequently implemented as the relaunched UCISA CISG Directory. UCISA member institutions' Directory Maintainers can complete their database entries by using the CISG directory link in the menu on the UCISA website [NB: username and password is required].
